Hi there!
My name is Seonjae (she/her) and I am a director, writer, and translator based in NYC. My name is pronounced like sun in the sky + letter J.
I am originally from Seoul, South Korea, and started doing theatre because I had trouble making friends. I’m fascinated by the capacity of theatre to create worlds onstage that draw from, yet transcend, our boundaries of language and culture.
I love any kind of project that feels relevant and from the heart, but I am particularly passionate about: ensemble work, adaptations (especially Greek tragedy), themes of sexuality/intimacy, things that require athleticism and virtuosity from the actors. In addition, I’m committed to practicing and continually learning more about leading collaborative, equitable, rewarding processes for all.
Also, I’m a Scorpio, ENFP, gym rat, Swiftie, above-average cook, Carrie, and cat person, and would be thrilled to discuss any of those things.
